MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Depression Fabian may gradually intensify over the weekend and develop into a tropical storm within 24 hours, according to state weather bureau PAGASA.
In its latest bulletin, PAGASA said Fabian is “unlikely to directly affect the weather condition in the country” throughout the period, but may bring rains over parts of Luzon and Western Visayas starting Sunday.
“The Southwest Monsoon enhanced by the tropical cyclone may bring heavy rains over MIMAROPA, CALABARZON, Western Visayas, Metro Manila, Bataan, and Zambales,” PAGASA said.
It added that the declaration of cyclone wind signals is “less likely.”
As of 10 p.m., Fabian was estimated 1,395 kilometers east of Northern Luzon, maintaining maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 55 kph.
It is seen to move north northeastward or northward until Sunday morning, raising the possibility of Fabian briefly exiting the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Saturday, then reentering early Sunday.
PAGASA said Fabian – the country’s sixth tropical cyclone this year – is forecast to leave PAR Monday evening.
